This is a full project from concept to construction in collaboration with Singapore Airlines (SIA) to utilise their materials like old seat covers and blankets, transforming them into a collection.I chose the idea of Beautiful nightmares where garments have the elements of being scary yet it beautiful. The look is avant garde and bold with a mixture of contrasting colours like black white and red.I had to create my garments with zero to minimal waste and utilising at least 70% of the SIA materials given. This is a full project from concept to construction in collaboration with Z fencing for their 30th anniversary.Themed “One for all, all for fencing “ I was tasked to create a physical mini mannequin gala look with their old fencing suits while having a 5 look collection. My inspiration drew from the famous Shakespeare play called Hamlet where it explores ideas of complexity, impossibility of certainty, revenge and justice. The main character in the play Hamlet is the epitome of action and inaction. He debates whether to take action to kill the King which is juxtaposed with the other 2 characters that have quick decisions and take action almost immediately to take revenge.Hamlet as someone of caution and hesitancy, which in turn it to be a reason of his tragedy. Titled: “To be or not to be; The readiness is All”, the story of hamlet reminds us of a game in fencing where they share similar values and principles in the play. just like how decision making and taking action is crucial in Hamlet, fencing also requires fast-thinking as time is essence for one to make a move. It can be a matter of seconds for one to cause another's downfall. Below shows the final illustration, final mannequin look, moodboard and material board. This garment is fully sustainable using recycled fencing attire that is draped in a zero waste, no cutting manner with others made from scrap fabrics. This look is multi-way and the outer skirt can be removed.
